Start Your (Writing) Engines!

Let’s Write! is a ten-week afterschool workshop that offers a guided writing experience for kids in fifth through eighth grade who are interested in learning more about how to craft fiction. Students are taught and guided by Barry Lyga, a Maplewood resident and New York Times bestselling author of YA, middle grade, and adult fiction.

Registration for FALL ’26 is now open!

The workshop takes place Wednesdays from 4–5pm, beginning September 16 and ending December 2 (with two breaks on October 14 and November 25).

In Let’s Write!, your child will learn:

The 5 things every writer needs to know before sitting down to write!
The fundamentals of planning out a story.
How to bear down and get the writing done.
How to workshop a piece, both giving and receiving feedback.

At the conclusion of the season, everyone’s work will be bound into a print anthology that will be given to each student!
